Metro Transit has made two new additions to its MetroBus leadership team. Following interviews and evaluations of qualified candidates from across the nation, Metro Transit has selected Melvin Barkley as Assistant General Manager of MetroBus Operations, and Bertram De Sha as Director of MetroBus Service Performance.
“Our MetroBus team is committed to providing safe, convenient and customer-focused transit options for our community,” said Trenise Winters, General Manager of MetroBus Operations. “Melvin and Bertram are going to help us strengthen that commitment and enhance the quality of our services. Together, they have more than 40 years of experience in transportation, and we are excited to incorporate their knowledge and expertise into our operations.”
Melvin Barkley joined Metro Transit on August 10 as the Assistant General Manager of MetroBus Operations. He will lead MetroBus field operations. He is responsible for managing and developing the service delivery team, which includes MetroBus operations control, the service area management team and transit service managers.
Barkley has more than 15 years of experience in transportation, most recently as the general manager for Gresham Transportation Services and contracted services provided for Metro Atlanta Regional Transportation Authority (MARTA) in Atlanta, GA. He was previously the general manager for SCR and MV Transportation, working with Pace paratransit services in Chicago, IL, and the assistant general manager of Transdev, working with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in Washington, D.C., and transit systems in Detroit, MI and Newark, NJ. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
Bertram De Sha joined Metro Transit on August 17 as the Director of MetroBus Service Performance. He will support the ongoing efforts to enhance MetroBus service and improve the rider experience through employee development and operations support, with a focus on safety and security, on-time performance and customer satisfaction.
De Sha brings more than 27 years of transportation industry experience to Metro Transit, most recently as a senior manager at Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) in Dallas, TX. He has also held leadership positions at Southwest Airlines and at Greyhound Lines, where he spent more than 20 years directing and managing operations and scheduling. He attended the University of Southern California.
